Ex:Re – Sleep
A Paris hotel room is still audible inside “Sleep”. Elena Tonra wrote the song there alone, cut a demo on the spot, and that demo’s acoustic guitar became the backbone of the finished track: looped, pushed through a vocoder and set over a drum machine, it comes out muffled, like a party heard through the wall. Tonra calls it a song she’d dance to, all small-hours, after-closing mood, which runs straight against the title. Keeping the demo was the point, and it sums up the whole idea behind Save As: catch the moment and leave it alone. Second single after Radio Station (W38), with the album out October 30 on 4AD.
